General Information

What services does CHCL provide?

CHCL is the sole provider of handling services for containers, general cargo, some dry bulk cargo (like fertilizer, maize, soya bean meal, and coal), vehicles, and fish at the Mauritius Cargo Terminal. Please contact us for specific inquiries regarding cargo handling capabilities.

    • Vessel Operations: 24/7, including holidays.
    • Administrative Services (billing, finance, etc.): Weekdays from 09:00 to 16:00.
    • Planning: 24/7 on-call service.
    • Documentations and Gate Services: Monday to Sunday, 07:00 to 23:00.
  • Mauritius Container Terminal: Nicolas Baudin Road, Mer Rouge, Port Louis.
  • Multipurpose Terminal/Container Park/Car Park: Port W Access Road, Mer Rouge, Port Louis.
  • CHCL Head Office: Mer Rouge, Port Louis. Directions to our offices are available on Google Maps, Apple Maps, and Garmin.

Vessel scheduling requests should be submitted through our Planning and Documentations departments. Required documents include a Berthing Request from the agent and a Notice of Arrival from MACCS.

Charges

How are the charges determined?

Charges are consolidated rates for labor and equipment, including all supervisory costs, travel, overtime, and other allowances. Rates are fixed in dollars at the official customs rate in force at the time of the vessel’s arrival.

    • Vessel agents pay the stevedoring charges for containers or general cargo handled from or onto the vessel.
    • Consignors and consignees of containers and general cargo pay the charges related to shore operations.
    • Receivers of bulk cargo are charged for the handling services rendered by CHCL.

CHCL levies storage charges on consignors and consignees of containers and general cargo after free storage periods lapse.

Yes, additional charges apply when special gears or additional labor are required for handling out-of-gauge containers.

Claims

What happens to unclaimed goods?

Containers, packages, and cargo not removed within 21 days (or 42 days for transshipment) are considered unclaimed and may be disposed of accordingly in the presence of customs.

In the event of damage or loss, please report the issue to our Claims team. We will initiate an investigation and work with you to resolve the claim.

What security measures are in place at the port terminal?

We maintain a high level of security at our terminal, including CCTV surveillance, access control, and security personnel.

We adhere to strict safety regulations to ensure the safety of personnel and cargo. All visitors and personnel are required to comply with these regulations.
